Approval for production in compliance with the rule on environment

We are the most dedicated people in respecting the nurseries environment. We are the owners and the managers, the ones who spend nearly all day in it. We often live with our families in it.”

Fabrizio Tesi, general director of the Tesi Group, is proudly announcing the achievement of the 14001 certificate, the Environmental management system that assure of the Company conformity with its stated environmental policy. Tesi is the first nursery in Italy to attain ISO 14001.

Giorgio Tesi nursery is a long-standing company, well established in the past by Giorgio, the founding father, but continuing to grow in the future.

Future is the main site expanding with new offices, new hangar and a 200 seats auditorium.

Future is the photovoltaic panels that replaced the asbestos eternit that covered the old hangars roof. Future is the new financial director from the bank business, Marco Cappellini, quite atypical in the nursery trade where it is usually the owners who fully lead the management of the company.

Future is the 14001 certificate, Giorgio Tesi’s pride, recently achieved through professional people such as the engineer Claudio Maestripieri. Mr.Cappellini explains that it was not easy as the Certyquality, the Italian company who certificates European-wide, is really scrupulous: it actually checks the chemical part, the phitosanitary section, the energy consumption, the water spending, the job safety and therefore the staff training. Mr.Maestripieri took nearly 2 years to get the investigation arranged and approved. Giorgio Tesi has a continued respect for the environment, security and energy.

To this end the goal is to convert into compost or soil what it’s usually considered as “green waste”. The dead parts of the plants, together with soil and compost, are minced and converted into soil. It will then be mixed and given back to the plants. As Fabrizio Tesi explains, this process benefits the company in 2 different ways: first, we don’t have waste disposal; second, we get back a useful and excellent product. This method will allow us to keep the costs low and at the same time respect the environment, a fundamental issue for our trade. Actually, the nursery business is often wrongly criticized as an “enemy” of the natural world and the 14001 certificate definitely places us 1 step forward.

UnGruppoInContinuaEspansione

Introduction to the catalogue for the next season is always a chance to present new things we’ve done and projects for the immediate future.

Our main commitments and initiatives are carried out in Giorgio Tesi’s memory, to mark the 10th anniversary of his death this year.   In addition, business investments and innovations are continuing even through such a difficult time for the economy.

After several positive trade years, business had a slight decrease mainly due to the economic situation in general and to the weather conditions here and in the countries where we export. Nevertheless, our positivism and our projects brought us to the achievements we planned: to double the offices and the construction of a 3000 square meters hangar with a 6000 square meters loading area next. Moreover, new greenhouses and new tunnels have been built, more than 30ha of land for our production have been bought, together with new machinery and vehicles. Recently, the buyout of Comital, divisione Vivai, 10 ha of local nursery in Spazzavento (PT) added to our continued growth.

In addition to that, we have started up-grading  the new branches in Orbetello (GR) and in San Benedetto del Tronto (AP), which we hope to have completed in the next few months.

The company keeps growing in many directions, mainly due to efforts and support of our families and our co-workers.

Our philosophy is to learn something new every day, to improve ourselves, to grow with our customers and suppliers.

A challenge we accept with enthusiasm, but also taking care of the quality and reliability for which we are known.

Our main aim is not only selling but also the research of the balance of quality and price, which allow us to establish trustful relationships with our customers.

Our goal is to liaise with our customers at every stage in a professional manner to ensure satisfaction with every order.

In order to help you with researching our plants, we now have our catalogue on-line ( please, visit our web site www.giorgiotesivivai.it ).

Finally, we would like to remind you of the invitation to visit our nurseries, where you’ll meet friendly people who speak your language.

We’re waiting for you !

Pistoia- Working in the environment means mainly to respect it. This is how Giorgio Tesi carry out the use of pesticides, fertilizers and chemical treatments. Care that has been turned into the achievement of important environment certifications. “ Getting them”, explains Marco Cappellini, “ is a path Fabrizio Tesi started in 2000, when the company got the ISO 9001. Moreover, it’s the first nursery in Italy to obtain the UNI ISO 14001 last June: we’re proud of it and we are aware of the commitment required to follow all its guiding principles.

To get and to keep a certification, makes clear our financial commitment.  It requires considerable effort but is something we cannot ignore.

An ecological trademark to fight the cliché that nurserymen contribute to pollution with an excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides.   The importance of having an agriculturalists team to follow the production process.   Meanwhile, with the MPS certificate ( Milieu programme Sirteelt ) that has already been registered and the EMAS environment certificate we have already started the practice.

To respect the health of the ecosystem, to cut down on energy, water, gas and methane, to keep all the local and national rules: this is what the company will carry on in the near future.

More than 270ha of production, where15ha are greenhouses and 80ha are open field. More than 150 workers in 3 different sections ( production, trade and estate ) and in 12 different sites among Pistoia (PT), Orbetello (GR), Piadena (CR) and Turkey, near Istanbul.

The nursery specialize in the outdoor plants, from climbers to giant bonsai, topiary art and full standard trees with more than 700 different kind pf plants.

In spite of the economic difficulties, in 2007 the company increased turnover by 15%, making the group among the top nurseries in Italy and in Europe.

90% of the production goes abroad ( Italy is only a small percentage ): France, Holland, Germany and Great Britain are the main countries  where Tesi export. On the increase are customers in Georgia and eastern Europe.
