THE FIRST NURSERY IN ITALY TO ACHIEVE THE ‘GREEN CERTIFICATE’

Aug 06, 2009

Approval for production in compliance with the rule on environment

We are the most dedicated people in respecting the nurseries environment. We are the owners and the managers, the ones who spend nearly all day in it. We often live with our families in it.”

Fabrizio Tesi, general director of the Tesi Group, is proudly announcing the achievement of the 14001 certificate, the Environmental management system that assure of the Company conformity with its stated environmental policy. Tesi is the first nursery in Italy to attain ISO 14001.

Giorgio Tesi nursery is a long-standing company, well established in the past by Giorgio, the founding father, but continuing to grow in the future.

Future is the main site expanding with new offices, new hangar and a 200 seats auditorium.

Future is the photovoltaic panels that replaced the asbestos eternit that covered the old hangars roof. Future is the new financial director from the bank business, Marco Cappellini, quite atypical in the nursery trade where it is usually the owners who fully lead the management of the company.

Future is the 14001 certificate, Giorgio Tesi’s pride, recently achieved through professional people such as the engineer Claudio Maestripieri. Mr.Cappellini explains that it was not easy as the Certyquality, the Italian company who certificates European-wide, is really scrupulous: it actually checks the chemical part, the phitosanitary section, the energy consumption, the water spending, the job safety and therefore the staff training. Mr.Maestripieri took nearly 2 years to get the investigation arranged and approved. Giorgio Tesi has a continued respect for the environment, security and energy.

To this end the goal is to convert into compost or soil what it’s usually considered as “green waste”. The dead parts of the plants, together with soil and compost, are minced and converted into soil. It will then be mixed and given back to the plants. As Fabrizio Tesi explains, this process benefits the company in 2 different ways: first, we don’t have waste disposal; second, we get back a useful and excellent product. This method will allow us to keep the costs low and at the same time respect the environment, a fundamental issue for our trade. Actually, the nursery business is often wrongly criticized as an “enemy” of the natural world and the 14001 certificate definitely places us 1 step forward.
